Second Quarter Earnings Reported by Tech Stock Giants Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) – Google Disappoints while Microsoft Meets Expectations

Despite Yahoo!’s disappointing results released earlier this week analyst expectations for Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) were high for the leader in search. Earnings, released late Thursday, showed a strong increase in revenue, but with lower than expected profits. The disappointing results sent the shares lower in after hours.

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) met expectations in their earnings report of $0.39 per share in light of the Company’s $1.15 billion Xbox video-game console fix. Investors showed confidence in shares of the tech giant ahead of the Company’s announcement, up nearly 2%for the day and rising higher in after hours.

Sector Close Up – Tech Stocks Earnings Season

  • Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), shares were down slightly in today’s trading ahead of the Company’s earnings report, closing at $ 548.59 with downward pressure continuing in after hours.
  • Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO), closed the day down 17 cents to $26.03.
  • eBay Inc. (NASDAQ: EBAY) off of their report of a 50% surge in earnings for the second quarter, faced a decline in today’s stock price, closing at $33.50 on concerns over weaker listing numbers.
  • Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) closed up 59 cents to $31.51 in anticipation of earnings.
  • Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC) gave investors mixed earning results this week, but closed slightly up after today’s trading at $25.26.
  • IBM (NYSE:IBM) fresh off better than expected earnings ended the day up 4.3% to $115.86
  • Juniper Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) pleased investors with its announcement of a second-quarter profit of $86.2 million, or 15 cents a share, a vast improvement from the loss the Company reported for the same period last year. Juniper shares closed up 12.5% ending the day at $30.06
